So, for those of you unaware: The Korean entertainment industry is an absolute nightmare. Actors have gone years never being paid for work they’re owed pay on. The idol industry is terrible in all the ways. And it’s honestly no surprise the industry is shit for writers as well. Glad to see the Korean writers are standing up for themselves too!

FYI if your employer does this, if they have done it for a long time especially, you and your coworkers could be owed huge amounts of unpaid wages and it would be an easy suit if there is a paper trail like this and your employer is placing strict requirements on your behavior while not at work. Employment lawyers generally work on contingency. Just food for thought.

The problem is that the “published works” in this screenshot refer to Aristotle’s “exoteric” works, which were published for a wider audience and almost certainly in the form of a Socratic dialogue, rather than the (more well-known today) “esoteric” works, which are mostly lecture notes. Unfortunately for us, all of the still-extant works of Aristotle are the “esoteric” lecture notes, and the exoteric works referenced here are lost, and only survive in (mostly short) fragments and quotations.

So what this is basically saying is “Also please remember what I’ve already discussed a billion times in my other works about this topic. It’s very important, but I won’t explain it here because I’ve already done so there very thoroughly” and then we don’t have those works anymore because they stopped being popular and weren’t copied in sufficient numbers to survive medieval manuscript transmission, so we can’t even reliably identify what topic he’s referring to.

insane how many people just have these incredible artists in their families who get no recognition outside of crocheting circles because this art form is devalued for its association with women

in my country, the word for crocheting, is used metaphorically, to compliment a surgeon’s work.

every AFAB person my mother’s age and older, had practiced this craft at one point on another.

My mom has made literal paintings, that decorate our house for years (I’ll come back with pictures when I visit next) you can only see that they are crocheting when you go very close.

So Universal Pictures may have just intentionally over-pruned all of the city owned trees in front of their LA corporate office in an effort to fuck with the WGA/SAG-AFTRA picketers during what is predicted to be the hottest week of the year so far:

In a statement to The Post, a spokesperson for NBCUniversal claimed the tree work is simply an annual ritual at this time of year. “We understand that the safety tree trimming of the Ficus trees we did on Barham Blvd. has created unintended challenges for demonstrators, that was not our intention. In partnership with licensed arborists, we have pruned these trees annually at this time of year to ensure that the canopies are light ahead of the high wind season,” they wrote. “We support the WGA and SAG’s right to demonstrate and are working to provide some shade coverage. We continue to openly communicate with the labor leaders on-site to work together during this time.”

If those trees were pollarded annually, the cut areas would NOT look like that. There would be big knobs of old growth at the trimming sites. Not seeing any of that here. The way those trees were topped (not pollarded, which is a very careful process that has to begin when the tree is immature) is excellent way to kill them due to loss of hydration, open sites to infection and parasitism during the best time of year for both, lack of nutrition due to so little greenery and new budding growth being left, sunburn and other exposure damage, and a myriad of other possibilities. Plus, if they were topped annually, they would not have the lovely drooping branches seen in the other picture but would have tons of vertical suckers instead.

If this was done by the city, the public works arborists should be protesting in front of city hall and screaming their heads off right now. I’m not hearing about that, so… Tree law!
